...and then i.. went to Texas pt.1

I had just arrived home from working at a carnival around the New York area.  I hadn't been home in almost 2 years.  My aunt had sent my friend at I, who I had originally joined the carnival with me some money via Western Union to get a bus ticket home, why I left the carnival is another story altogether.  So like I was saying I was now home, back in Pennsylvania with Tom from the carnival.  After all of the how ya beens and the where the hell have ya been ats, my Grandmother(not biological) told me that a friend of mine that I had not spoken to in quite some time was back in town, lets call him Jerry.  Jerry had recently got into some trouble around my hometown while back for what I think was a visit to see old friends, I don't really remember why he was back at the time.  Anywho, he got into trouble, and it still remains unknown whether or not he told on some people from my home town to get out of said trouble, I don't even remember what that trouble was or who all was involved.  It wasn't long after I got home that Jerry was knocking on my door to see me, we had been best friends for a long time, I'm not sure why we hadn't been in touch for so long.  We had our hellos and what not, he said he'd be back later that evening to catch up even more so.
Where my Grandma lived at the time was in between a church and a funeral home, and across the street was a gas station, I walked to the later to buy some smokes when I ran into some other friends from my town.  Jerry and I were more "friend" friends, these friends where more "lets get high" friends, but these "lets get high friends" also happened to be the ones Jerry got into trouble with..  Naturally they heard that Jerry had been at my place earlier and wanted to get me to "lure" him to a place where they could kick his ass.  I was hesitant at first saying as we where such good friends before, but they sweetened the deal with a promise of a  1/2 OZ of bud so I was like "what the hell", we'll make it look like a coincidence and just tell them what time he'd be over later that night, and I'll get high later..  Thing is... one of the guys who wanted to kick his ass wasn't my biggest fan either, being as I made it with his girlfriend at his party, at his house, in his hot tub, while he was in the house..  So against my better judgment I told them when and went back home to wait for my weed to get there.
It was later that night when my "lets get high" friends pulled in to meet my "friend" friend Jerry. We where outside at the time next to my house ant the church parking lot, it wasn't 5 seconds before they all where beating on Jerry and dragging him down the alley.  If I had known they where all gonna mess him up at once I wouldn't have done it, but I did, and they did.. Needless to say my indiscretions with the one guys girlfriend came up and there was no weed at all, in fact all I was left with was a bloody friend in an alleyway and a sick feeling of betrayal in my stomach.
After all was said and done I dragged Jerry back into my house and started cleaning him up.  I left him spend the night at my place in my room on the couch, Tom, my friend from the carnival was in the other room that was upstairs on the floor with a blanket.
The next morning we were talking about his mom and sister that lived in Texas, and how he could get out of PA, and start over there.  He asked if he went there would I go with him, without hesitation I agreed.  There where a few problems in our plans though 1.) I just got home 2.) I brought Tom 3.) No car, no money.  So we did what anyone in this situation would do and we went to the church made up a story about some people who where going to kill Jerry and I if we stayed in PA, got a donation for bus fair and food for the 3 day ride, and just left without telling anyone..  So Tom stayed, I left.. Tom ended up filling my role at the house, the grandson my grandma that never liked me, always wanted but I could never be. win/win? I never did tell Jerry it was me who sold him out, but the way things ended in Texas I can say I don't really feel bad about it anymore, but that to is another story altogether..
